This semester, Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority Inc. Gamma Chapter, was Nominated and Awarded The Unified Greek Council Chapter of the Year Award. After multiple semesters of hard work, we are proud of our officers and our actives for contributing to this honor.

Our semester began with our spring semester’s rush week. We had 2 informationals, a Speed Dating event with the sisters, a service event (in accordance with our national philanthropy “Cancer Awareness”), and a final Invite Only event. We are proud to welcome our Alpha Epsilon line at the end of this rush process!

To foster sisterhood and get to know the other organizations at Baylor, we’ve planned many social events that allowed us to do so and build connections, such as our Skate Waco Take-a-Date, our Sisterhood Bonding at Practically Pikasso that was attended by our KPhiG Regional Advisor and our Baylor advisor, and our Formal. Lastly, we had a Senior Night to celebrate the graduating seniors and wish them well on their future endeavors.

As KPhiG is an organization that is within the Unified Greek Council, we participated in many UGC events throughout the semester! We hosted an Easter Egg Hunt in March that was a major success and was well-loved by the many participants from the various UGC organizations. Moreover, we also hosted an event with our fellow South Asian Greek organizations. The sisters of Kappa Phi Gamma joined with the Sisters of Delta Kappa Delta and the Brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi and hosted a mixer where the members of all three organizations came together to get to know one another through fun events.

Service is one of our core principles so we also hosted many service and fundraising events throughout the semester so that we can give back to the Waco community as well as donate to Sunshine Kids, a nonprofit organization that helps children with cancer. We hosted an event with CycleBar Waco, a Self-Care fundraiser (in which we sold face masks, eye masks, lips masks, and scrunchies to serve as a reminder that it is important to take care of yourself and take time to destress), our Phinest Pups event and partnership with the Humane Society, and a profit share with Cha Community to support the Asian community in Waco.

In April, we hosted our biggest service initiative for our philanthropy week called “Cancer Awareness, A Real Effort” (C.A.R.E.) Week. C.A.R.E. Week is a week full of events held by all KPhiG chapters across the Nation to support the nonprofit organization our National Board partners with. This year, we have partnered with Sunshine Kids as previously mentioned. C.A.R.E. Week started off with our Kick-Off Rally in which we hosted a movie night. The movie featured was “The Fault In Our Stars”, which follows the lives of two young adults as they navigate through life with cancer. The following event included a fundraiser (throwing reusable water balloons at our sisters), a Candelight Vigil, and a joint Service Event with the brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi to make care packages for Texas Oncology, a cancer care center in Waco.

After the events of C.A.R.E. Week, we had two more fundraisers to end the semester with our Bake Sale and virtual fundraiser in partnership with Mantra and Co., a South Asian nonprofit organization that sells accessories and jewelry and donates a portion of their proceeds to help fund a nonprofit hospital in India. In this way, we have been raising awareness for our philanthropy while also supporting other organizations that promote the South Asian community. With the success and hard work from our fundraisers, we were able to donate $500 dollars towards Sunshine Kids this semester.
